Governemt 101

Along with my fellow student, I too had no idea what the fiscal cliff meant. I also like to think that none of the political mumbo jumbo affects me, except gas prices.

It is said that President Obama has spent more than any other president in history. If the $5.5 trillion wouldn't have been spent maybe we wouldn't be facing this fiscal cliff. I don't believe in raising taxes on the rich. I'll say most of them have worked hard for their money so why should they have to make up for everyone else. The rich and/or famous also donate a lot of money. Donald Trump donates to more than 20 charities. Many celebrities give millions to charities and great causes. How many average Joes could do that even in a life time?

Why should he be excluded from paying higher taxes, or anyone in congress for that matter. Maybe we should stop giving money to other countries and worry about our own problems first.

Voter Fraud

Become an eligible voter.

To be able to vote, one must be a U.S. citizen, over the age of 18, and a resident in the country. You must vote in the county you are registered in. If you move to another county you must re-register.

For the 2012 presidential election, Texas attempted to pass a law that requires a photo I.D. to vote. The law was struck down, ruling that requiring a photo I.D. to vote was said to hurt turnout of minority voter and impose “strict, unforgiving burdens on the poor” by charging those voters who lack proper documentation fees to obtain election ID cards. -nytimes.com

In Texas it is not required to show a photo I.D. to be able to vote. A person can register to vote online with no I.D. and show up to the polls with only a utility bill. In February the Pew Center on the states found that 24 million flawed voter registrations nationwide. Of those 24 million, some include duplicate records, people who are registered in two or more states, and 2 million voters that are deceased.

The Obama administration believes there is no voter fraud and the new ID laws are an attempt by conservatives to disenfranchise poor voters who do not have ID and tend to vote for Democrats.

When people vote at the polls they are actually voting for which candidate receives it's electors  The electoral college decides who wins the presidency. This is a good thing considering there is voter fraud.

First time as a blogger

I guess the main thing I am confused about is why not just get a green card and live here legally?..

Maybe since America is in walking distance of Mexico it is easier to get here than say if you were in Poland. Why would someone want to walk around and be scared of being deported? Aliens may not be a threat to the American people but to the economy yes. They get paid under the table so that they don't have to pay taxes but yet when taken to the hospital to the emergency room they don't have to pay. The hospitals are reimbursed by government money that they shouldn't have to spend. As for jobs, an employer is going to want to pay someone the least amount possible. Who doesn't look for the cheaper way out? This is also another reason we send jobs overseas. You are right on health insurance being expensive but it is something you need, as well as car insurance.

Why should America help people that are doing the wrong thing? I 100 percent agree with people having to be drug tested to be able to get government assistance. You have cash to buy drugs but not to buy groceries? Someone explain to me how that works. If we took away the government assistance to illegal immigrants we would be saving that much money. Why should a child that was born on American soil to illegal immigrants be able to stay in American? This is teaching the child that what their parents did was ok. Maybe murder is not a good example but the point is still the same. They did a bad thing but should we let them roam around with no consequences?

Come on over... your free ride in America

Illegal immigration is just that... ILLEGAL.

According to the Pew Hispanic Center there were 11.5 million illegal immigrants living in the United States in 2011.

To cross the border into Mexico it is suggested that you purchase Mexican auto insurance. You are required to have a passport and must receive a tourist (FMT) card. Border officials may not even tell you where to locate these. If a tourist commits an illegal act while in Mexico, he is now under prosecution of Mexican judicial system. If an alien commits an illegal act while in the U.S. he is removed. To enter back into the United States, tourist must present a passport. The Visa Waiver Program allows eligible citizens to enter into the United States for 90 days or less without first obtaining a visa. This leads to "overstaying." Between thirty-three and forty percent of illegal population came with visas and overstayed illegally.

To become a citizen a person can become naturalized, or apply for citizenship after having a valid green card for 5 years. A green card can be obtained through a family member, a job or having the status of a refugee. A person can marry a U.S. citizen and apply for citizenship after three years of marriage. Citizenship requires the reading and writing of English, and basic history and government knowledge of the U.S. A child born on U.S. soil is a citizen of the United States, and many immigrants see this as a way to citizenship.

More than 6,000 illegals came from Canada in 2010. Around 1,881,390 aliens reside in California and 1,292,340 in Texas. Of the eleven million illegal immigrant population, slightly fewer than 8.5 million jobs have been taken.

The U.S. / Mexico border is the primary point of entry for cocaine. Marijuana smuggled into the United States, grown in Mexico, accounts for most of the marijuana in the U.S.. Mexican drug cartel brings in around $23 billion in revenue from drug trafficking. Ex: BC Bud in Vancouver sells for two thousand dollars a pound, but when smuggled into the U.S. it sells anywhere between $5,000 and $8,000 a pound.

Hospitals are required by law to treat anyone that comes into the emergency room. The government in the past has reimbursed hospitals for treating the 11 million uninsured illegal immigrants. Funding to hospitals will be cut when Obamacare takes effect and fewer people are without insurance.

President Obama has put a hold on deporting illegal aliens. Motor voter laws make it possible for aliens to register to vote. First lady Michelle Obama told supporters in Iowa the election could come down to a few thousand votes. “I just want you to remember that in the end, this all could come down to those last few thousand people that we register to vote." There are about 180,000 non-residents registered to vote in the upcoming election.  Military men and women were disenfranchised in the 2008 Presidential election, as their ballots were mailed too late to count or mailed to the wrong address.  The Military tends to vote about 70% republican. There has been great concern over their votes getting counted in the 2012 election.

President Obama seems to favor the illegal aliens staying in the United States regardless of the direct economic drain that they put on the American tax payers.  His interest in handouts to the poor and illegal residents of America is certainly because of the amount of votes that he can command from this segment of society regardless of the impact it has on America's future.

Men on WOMEN'S issues

Eliana Johnson of the National Review writes that Obama is claiming women rely on Planned Parenthood for more that contraceptive care, also for mammograms and cancer screening.

In the second presidential debate Obama stated that women 'rely' on Planned Parenthood for mammograms, FDA states, no they don't. Of the five offices that were called only one location provided this service.

The FDA is responsible for the licensing of mammography centers to own and operate mammogram machines. According to the FDA, Planned Parenthood does not perform mammograms.
The Department of Health and Human Services also said that no Planned Parenthood clinic in the United States has mammogram equipment.

I feel this is a reason men (president and governor) should not have a say in women's choices (abortion, etc.); THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT! What if women tried to take away the rights for men to get a vasectomy or circumcised? It is highly unlikely that that would ever be able to happen. It is our body and no one should be allowed to tell us what we can and can't do. I presume the author is aiming towards women or possibly to anyone who is not likely to vote for Obama and can rack up another mistake under his name. I agree with the author that the president is wrong and there is plenty of evidence to back it up. Where were his fact checkers on this one?

$tundent loan$

With an outstanding student debt of nearly $1 trillion, Obama backs bankruptcy option. At first the President promised to cut student loan interest rates, now he is making it easier for students to avoid repaying at all. "Under President Obama, the costs of college have skyrocketed -- making it more difficult for students to attend college -- and his economic policies have made it harder for graduates to get jobs," Amanda Henneberg, Romney campaign spokesperson, said. The goal is to create new ways for borrowers to avoid repayment. The unemployment rate has fallen to 7.8% for the first time since Obama has been president. 60 percent of jobs today require more than a high school diploma. Now more than ever degrees are needed, but those college degrees still may not be strong enough for employers to hire.

At the Democratic National Convention Bill Clinton introduced Obama's lowering repayment plan, which states that depending on what career you enter, "teacher, police officer or a small town doctor in a rural area, debt obligation is determined by salary." To be able to qualify for "Pay as You Earn" you must never default on a payment for 20 years, and not already be in repayment before 2012. After paying 10% of your monthly income for 20 years, your debt will be forgiven (maybe). As of now the income based repayment plan has a 15% cap and debts vanish after 25 years of payments. Although this does sound intriguing, what is the catch for your debts disappearing?

The author states that "But wouldn't it be easier merely to encourage job creation rather than try to anticipate and make taxpayers pay for every consequence of joblessness?" Obama should concentrate on containing the costs of school and making scholarships and grants more easily available.

Elder's votes

Obama vs. Romney in votes from older people.

We will all be in this boat at some point in our lives, and need to know who is there to help. All of our working live we pay money to be able to have when we retire.

President Obama and GOP vice president Paul Ryan met at an AARP convention on Friday, in an attempt to win the older votes. So far a poll from an Associated Press-GfK released that Romney was ahead 52:41%. Voters over the age of 50 register in greater numbers and are twice as likely to cast their vote as young people. Romney's campaign stated that "Obama care was weakening Medicare" and if elected; Romney would give seniors more choice in their coverage.

Obama suggested that "Medicare and Social Security are not 'handouts' and that people have paid into them their whole lives." He also stated that "if elected Romney would turn Medicare into a voucher program that could raise seniors' health costs by up to $6,400 a year." A video was leaked by Obama's campaign saying that "Romney thinks more than half of senior citizens 'don't care about their lives', and that 47% of voters who support Obama are dependent on the government.

Polls have also shown that Obama has a slight lead and more cash on hand than Romney. Some of Romney's own party is saying that he is spending to much time raising money and not enough time talking to voters.
